Review: The Power of Six (Lorien Legacies #2) by Pittacus Lore, James Frey, Jobie Hughes

SUMMARY FROM GOODREADS.COM:

I've seen him on the news. Followed the stories about what happened in Ohio. John Smith, out there, on the run. To the world, he's a mystery. But to me . . . he's one of us.
Nine of us came here, but sometimes I wonder if time has changed us—if we all still believe in our mission. How can I know? There are six of us left. We're hiding, blending in, avoiding contact with one another . . . but our Legacies are developing, and soon we'll be equipped to fight. Is John Number Four, and is his appearance the sign I've been waiting for? And what about Number Five and Six? Could one of them be the raven-haired girl with the stormy eyes from my dreams? The girl with powers that are beyond anything I could ever imagine? The girl who may be strong enough to bring the six of us together?
They caught Number One in Malaysia.
Number Two in England.
And Number Three in Kenya.
They tried to catch Number Four in Ohio—and failed.
I am Number Seven. One of six still alive.
And I'm ready to fight.

MY TAKE:
This book wasn't as amazing for me as I Am Number Four, but I still couldn't stop reading.

The Power of Six picks up where I Am Number Four left off. John, Sam and Six are trying to stay hidden from the Mogadorians, as well as the FBI. At the same time, Seven and her Cepan are in Spain. Seven/Marina wants to leave the convent where she and her Cepan have been hiding but her Cepan seems to have turned her back on their mission.

This book is told through John and Marina, so the book constantly shifts from Spain to America. This can get a little bit jarring, especially when you're already immersed in John or Marina's world. A lot of new characters from Earth and Loric are included in the book so it can be overwhelming.

The plot of the book and the twists more than make up for any flaws that this book has. We learn a lot more about Loric origins, their culture and even the Legacies of the Garde. The ending also sets up the next book nicely.

THE GOOD:

  1. You meet a lot of cool new characters.
  2. You learn more about Lorien and Loric culture.
  3. The book is action-packed.

THE BAD:

  1. The shifting POVs can be confusing.

FAVORITE QUOTE/S:
I drop the bag beside the stream, remove the nonperishables, and place them on the rock ledge, which already holds several chocolate bars, small bags of granola, oatmeal, cereal, powdered milk, a jar of peanut butter, and various cans of fruits, vegetables, and soup.
READ IT IF:

  1. You liked I Am Number Four.
  2. You like science fiction.
  3. You like books with tough heroines.
