Review: Love Good Food by Sophie Michell

SUMMARY FROM NETGALLEY.COM:

We watch cooks on TV – whether it’s amateur cooks on Masterchef or Michelin-starred chefs on Saturday Kitchen – creating beautiful, modern recipes; but these dishes often seem rather time-consuming and difficult to follow. For this beautiful new book Sophie Michell, who has worked as a chef to numerous celebrities and is well known from her TV appearances, has created recipes that look and taste just as wonderful as these but are all very do-able. Whether you’re already an experienced cook or  someone with very little experience in the kitchen, you’ll find these contemporary dishes irrestistible.
The recipes are divided into chapters for light meals, main meals, desserts and baked treats. Encompassing dishes that are visually stunning (including gorgeous microherbs, shoots and edible flowers), international, full of different flavours and aromas, healthy, and based on great ingredients, Sophie shows you how to achieve memorable meals without spending hours in the kitchen. Here are recipes that excite and mesmerise; with flavours that jump out. Earthy, spicy, sour, sweet, deep, fiery, aromatic, fresh, zing, comforting, refreshing and delicate flavours, in modern, innovative and utterly delicious recipes. Discover how to cook like a trained chef – and try recipes such as Miso-Glazed Pork Belly, Micro-Herb & Parmesan Ravioli and Tomato & Geranium Jellies – to wow your friends, your partner and yourself!
Sophie Michell is one of the most glamorous and talented young chefs currently on UK television. She co-presented ‘Cook Yourself Thin’ and has worked on other popular food shows, including regular appearances on ‘Market Kitchen’. She has worked in many top London restaurants, was the private chef for a supermodel and cooks for various other A-list clients. She was nominated for the ‘Young Chef of the Year Award’ and is a columnist for Grazia, Healthy and Top Sante. Sophie is the author of several cookbooks including Irresistible, Fabulous Food and the TV tie-in Cook Yourself Thin, which she co-authored. She is a sought-after cookery demonstrator and regularly hosts shows for the BBC’s ‘Good Food Show’.

MY TAKE:

This book definitely had me drooling.

Love Good Food contains delicious and healthy light meals, main meals, desserts and baking.

The food styling is beautiful and the recipes look great. The division of light meals and main meals is a nice touch as sometimes you don't really feel like eating a huge meal but you don't want to eat something that's not yummy. My only gripe is that a lot of the ingredients are not that common, at least in this part of the world.

Thanks to NetGalley and Duncan Baird Publishers for the e-ARC. Publication date of Love Good Food is on July 1, 2012.

THE GOOD:

  1. The recipes are creative.
  2. The pictures are lovely.
  3. There are "basics" recipes for curry paste, etc.

THE BAD:

  1. Some of the featured ingredients could be hard to find.

FAVORITE QUOTE/S:
I am not pretending that this is a "ready in 30 minutes" type book, because many of the recipes are more complex than that.
READ IT IF:

  1. You like healthy food.
  2. You like creative recipes.
  3. You are adventurous when it comes to cooking.
