Blog Tour and Review: The Guardian's of Elijah's Fire by Frank L. Cole

SUMMARY FROM NETGALLEY.COM:

Just when they thought they were safe, Amber, Trendon, and their classmates get yanked back into the action. With the Tebah Stick in enemy hands, Amber becomes a target and it seems even her closest allies can’t be trusted. Now the gang will have to travel through enemy territory to protect a deadly ancient weapon that could cause the earth’s utter destruction.
This thrilling tale ups the action and doubles the danger. Bestselling author, Frank L. Cole delivers an addicting read for adventurers of all ages.

MY TAKE:

I like most action-adventure YA books so I was eager to read this book.

The Guardian's of Elijah's Fire is the second book in The Guardians Series. In this book, Amber and her friends are on the trail of another artifact that could be dangerous in the wrong hands.

I haven't read the first book, but you don't need to read the first book to follow the story. I kinda wanna read the first book, though, since the Philippines figures prominently in the story. It's always interesting to see how foreigners view our country.

The idea of Elijah's Fire was definitely interesting and seemed magical and plausible. Most of the plot twists weren't surprising but there were a few twists that were unexpected and thus made this more interesting.

Amber annoyed me sometimes, particularly near the last part of the book. Her decisions aren't exactly the smartest and it really irritated me. However, she does one surprising thing near the end of the book that made me like her a little bit more.

Thanks to NetGalley and Bonneville for the e-ARC. Publication date of The Guardian's of Elijah's Fire is on June 12, 2012.

THE GOOD:

  1. The concept is interesting.
  2. You don't need to read the first book to understand what's going on.
  3. It's fantasy yet it has a realistic feel.

THE BAD:

  1. Amber and the other characters can be annoying.

FAVORITE QUOTE/S:
"What is this?" I asked pointing to the container holding a green salad with kalamata olives, cucumbers, eggplant, and cubes of white cheese.
READ IT IF:

  1. You like action-adventure YA books.
  2. You are fascinated with the possibility that Bible stories might be based on actual facts.
  3. You like original concepts.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Frank L. Cole was born into a family of Southern storytellers and wrote his first book as age eight. Sadly he misplaced the manuscript and has since forgotten what he wrote. Highly superstitious and gullible to a fault, Frank will believe any creepy story you tell him, especially ones involving ghosts and Bigfoot. Currently along with his wife and three children, he resides in the shadow of a majestic western mountain range, which is most likely haunted.
